From TRAVEL Bordeaux Fête le Vin
14 June - 18 June Bordeaux, France

Bordeaux's summer festival offers a feast of food, wine
and culture, in a region boasting the world's finest vineyards.

Bordeaux Fête le Vin ('Bordeaux Celebrates Wine') has been held every two years over four days in June since its debut in 2003. The Festival takes over the city's main square and the banks of the River Garonne, offering wine tasting from the Aquitaine region (of which Bordeaux is capital), plus workshops, literary events, competitions, parades, banquets, concerts, fireworks and stalls selling regional foods.

The area around Bordeaux has roughly 9,000 wine-producing châteaux, 120,000 hectares of vineyards and 55 appellations. More than 700 million bottles are produced each year, from humble table wine to some
of the world's most prized vintages, including premier cru reds from Médoc and Graves (Château Lafit-Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, Château Haut-Brion and Château Mouton-Rothschild).

Festival-goers can also purchase Vineyard Passes (Pass Vignobles) entitling them to tour local the vineyard estates, and sample the heritage of the Gironde and Aquitaine regions. Bilingual guides are on hand to explain all aspects of wine production.
