From CULTURE & MUSIC Opening Night New York
26 September, Lincoln Center, New York. The opening night at the Metropolitan Opera is a glamorous night, rich with the promise of a star-studded winter of world-class opera. Anna Netrebko and Mariusz Kwiecien star as the lovestruck Tatiana and the imperious Onegin in Tchaikovsky's fateful romance.

The Metropolitan Opera celebrated its 125th anniversary season in 2008. It has been located at the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts since September 1966, when a new opera house opened, equipped with outstanding technical facilities.

World-class conductors - from Toscanini, to Bruno Walter, George Szell and Fritz Reiner - have taken the podium at the Met. It has also seen the American premieres of some of the most important works in the repertory.

Each season the Met stages over 200 opera performances in New York, attended by over 800,000 people.
