The US Institute for Healthcare Improvement free site enables healthcare professionals to tap the expertise of their colleagues across the globe to improve the quality of healthcare. The site contains strategies, analytical tools, case studies, discussion forums and access to some of the world?s leading healthcare experts.

At the heart of the site is an online discussion forum enabling the free exchange of ideas and experiences. Content areas focus on specific topics, with the first two addressing patient safety and improvement methods. Content areas to appear in the coming months include chronic conditions, critical care, office practices, end-of-life care, leadership, HIV/AIDS and workforce development.

Each topic area is hosted by a leading expert in the field who oversees the content and moderates regular online discussions. The site also includes an online workspace, featuring the Improvement Tracker, a powerful tool that enables professionals to track and chart their progress in a particular area over time, as well as share the results to help others improve. Future releases will extend this functionality with specialised interactive tools to track adverse drug events, perform failure modes and effects analyses, and assess the cultural readiness of organisations for change.

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement is a not-for-profit organisation working for the improvement of healthcare throughout the world. Founded in 1991, IHI is a catalyst for change, cultivating innovative concepts for improving patient care and implementing programmes for putting those ideas into action. Thousands of healthcare providers, including many of the finest hospitals in the world, participate in IHI?s groundbreaking work.
