Information on recent initiatives to tackle healthcare associated infections and details of new ideas to promote clean and safe treatment have been published by the Department of Health. In particular, healthcare professionals are asked to remind patients that antibiotics do not work on most coughs, colds and sore throats; and that unnecessary use can lead to increased microbial resistance.
