In January 2007, the Department of Health (DH) established 20 pilot sites to develop and test the introduction of Information Prescriptions - which point people to reliable resources about their health and care. Findings from this evaluation reveal that 66% of professionals were very or fairly satisfied with how the process was being implemented at their site - although this was notably lower (52%) among those working in primary care. Half (52%) of patients and service users agreed it had helped improve their care and 73% felt more confident in asking questions about their condition. The DH makes a number of recommendations in its final evaluation report, including the need to develop a national directory of information on long-term conditions (linked to established care pathways) and the need for a range of ready-to-use prescription templates that can be downloaded and used locally.
